About Summer Streets NYC 09

Announcing NY400 Summer Streets Photography Competition 2009!

The NY400 Project and the NYC Department of Transportation invite you to submit your favorite photographs from Summer Streets 2009.

For three Saturdays in August, Summer Streets takes valuable public space - our City's streets - and opens them up to people to play, walk, bike, and breathe. Summer Streets shows New Yorkers that provides more space for healthy recreation and is a part of NYC's greening initiative by encouraging New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation.

This is the second annual Summer Streets event. This year also marks the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s landing on the shores of what is now New York. To commemorate 400 years of enduring friendship between the Netherlands and the United States, the NY400 project was created by the Dutch government to strengthen and spread awareness of the relationship between the U.S. and the Netherlands.

Together the NYCDOT and NY400 celebrate this friendship and the mutual love of cycling and sustainability.

How to enter

1. Login to your flickr account or sign-up for a flickr account for free
2. Upload your photos
3. Join our "Summer Streets NYC 09" Group
4. Add your photo entries to our group
5. Tag your entries with "NY400" and "Summer Streets 09." Photos MUST be properly tagged in order to be considered for the contest. If you are a youth (under 18) photographer, please be sure to attach a "youth_SS09" tag to your photo.
6. Enter as many photos as you would like.

Alternatively, you may also submit photos as an email attachment to: SS_Photos@dot.nyc.gov. When submitting these photos, please include your first and last name within each photo title. Also, if you are under the age of 18, please include youth_SS09 in your email body. We will accept photos as JPG or TIFF.

Eligibility

All are welcome to enter regardless of age or residential status. There is no photo upload limit, however, all photos must meet a minimum pixel size of 1600 x 1200.

Prizes

The Dutch government is generously providing one youth Dutch bicycle and three adult Dutch bicycles as contest prizes. The four winners will be announced as follows:

Youth Winner (under 18)

Winning photographs will be used to promote future Summer Streets events. NY400 also intends to showcase winning photographs at event during the Harbor Week celebrations in September.
