OT: Flickr and Getty joining up (sorta)

view profile

Crowder Photography says:

So I guess Flickr and Getty are making an agreement that allows Getty to contact folks about their photos on Flickr for Getty to host/sell them. Not really sure how I feel about this given that Getty owns istockphoto.com but will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Does an agreement between them mean that Getty will contact us about image rights, or does the Flickr EULA allow Yahoo/Flickr to justy sell our images to Getty? I believe the EULA would allow Flickr to sell Getty access. I could be wrong.

Unless the EULA states that we give up copyright then you're good.

I'd be interested (but not necessarily likely) but I don't want to upload any full size images to flickr. Thus I guess it depends how they deal with the logistics of files.

But you could Still set your photos to a Creative Commons and be fine, just go Non Commercial.

I do like the idea a little, but then again, not so much.

Seems there might be reason to stick around after all... OT: the Myxer scandal.

But dont you need a 12mp (pro) camera to even qualify, or is that for Jupiter alone?

Yah, I'm weary about this. But hey if they a pay a decent price I'm for it.

I just have a feeling its going to be a way for the Big Guys to make big money off the little guy.

It could be a great thing. I think people are overly skeptical about partnerships and cross-promotion type stuff, but really good things can come out of it. We'll just have to see.

The Strobist site is hosting the offical FAQ (I'm sure its elsewhere too). I'd suggest we all read it, as it sheds light on a lot of the above points.

Don't expect too much on the price of your photos. If you have checked the istockphoto.com, you would know what I'm talking about.

I just wonder how they would check out the quality of the photos on flickr...

I guess my biggest question is if they will only consider photos that you have uploaded a high res.?

I will never upload high res. to flickr for anybody to steal but would be more than happy to supply Getty with a high res. file of any of my images.

An article about PhotoShelter vs. Getty.

www.photographyblog.com/index.php/weblog/comments/photosh...

Basically, Getty gives you 20% of sales, other guys give you 70%.

I dont' know, maybe.
