i would pay you to do this for me i hate the design of the trigger. and i would like to add an antenna to the top. I know you said that you dont have to worry about one breaking off but i personally dont care. I just hate the way that the other ones are made. and i am serious about paying you to make them.

How soon do you want them done?
I am very busy for the next couple of weeks, but free after that. Final crits.
I can put together some kind of package.

@bob sam
that's great! I'll have to get on it.
I was thinking of relocating the trigger itself again into a smaller box and try the 433 or cell phone antenna. Final critiques are around the corner, so I won't be able to try this out till after the onslaught of criticisms and CAD.

Hmmm...
Very cool! Looks more solid than the stock build. Have you found the taller transmitter to be obtrusive while shooting? Other than that possible concern, this idea seems amazing! How much would you charge to do some of these? I'm just 13, so I couldn't pay much...

@ssphillips
yes, AAA's inside.
@wmmk...
13?? LOL
The transmitter is actually smaller than PW's so it's no more obtrusive than a PW would.

Here you go guys...the secret insides.
Questions??

Now -- don't forget the "product decals". "An ounce of appearance is worth a pound of performance." "ProWorker" or just call me "PW Jr." to keep it short. :-)
next is the art work with all the SKU bar codes, patent pending, Trademark Registered, and FCC ident not applicable.

Hi metropolicity:
Nice mod!
If you were to use a slightly bigger box for the receiver, put the hot shoe on the larger face, and put a 1/4-20 threaded insert in the oposite larger face, it could be a self stand for the flash, and then also attach directly to a light stand.
Also, for the transmiter, putting the foot on the larger face will make it sit on the camera more like the Bowens Pulsar rather than the PW and thus have a lower profile (more horizontal than vertical).

i understand being busy, i really only need a trigger made, i see you live in canada, im out of philadelphia so mailing it shouldnt be to bad. I have two triggers as well so i could still use my setup while you were making the other one. I would want the 433mhz trigger on top preferably one like this www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=24845&doy=5m4#o...
the short one not the 6 inch skinny one. If you think you could put it in one of your boxes and add an antennae and keep it at a reasonable price i would be sincerely interested.

Very snazzy... but do they work? :) By that I mean, do they work any more reliably than the OEM version?

@micheal bass: I had ideas like that, when I have more time AKA after the damn term is done, I will be relocating the stuff again in the exact config you are describing, I'll likely be posting them again on strobist, i'll keep you in the loop.
@brock: The aaa's significantly increase the reliablity of them b/c they provide much more constant and effect battery power. When I had AA's strapped to the side of the original box, I used them for 4 months straight shooting maybe 4000 shots with out replacing the batteries.

To make sure I follow:
This mod is really about putting the receiver inside a bigger box, which can now house the 2 aaa batteries. To make it work, of course, also glueing (and soldering the connections) the hot shoe onto the new box. Right?
beside aaa batteries = more constant power, possibly cheaper long term, how is this working better or more reliable than the original?

@flyhere
The battery source was a huge issue with these triggers b/c they were really sensitive to anything lower than the optimum battery voltage. The AAA's allow the trigger to operate unphased by voltages.
Somehow the random firing ceased to occur after the transplant.
They also have TCF
Too Cool Factor...nuff said.

How about a little DIY tutorial along with a wiring diagram and a parts list? I assume it wouldn't be much of a leap to do this mode for one of the 16 channel eBay wireless sets, would you agree?

Metropolicity, great job, everything looks great! My only concern is that the bottom hot shoe adaptor which allows it to be mounted on a light stand isnt there any more. How would I go about putting it on a lightstand to be used with an umbrella and my Sb-600? Thanks!

@Lacklusters
I would probably use the L-shaped bracket that came with them in the first place. That can be easily mounted on the botom. I never liked the hotshoe thing b/c it never locked. I have umbrella mounts that have a 1/4 20 screw on it, so I added a nut (silver thing on the top if you scroll up) that is a 1/4 20 thread to attach to my light stand.
I would imagine that the 16 channel one is a but bigger of a board, so it would require a tiny bit of a bigger box.
Again, I will have much more time whe the term is done and I can play around with my soldering iron again.
Posting pics later.

doesn't this mean you have to unscrew the whole box to change he batteries though?
the current design allows the receiver case to pop open and change the battery in seconds.

I think if you can do this i'd love to see my dream!
- cactus internals
- 433 mhz detachable antenna
- AA battery compartment
- IR beam for focusing
- sturdy black box for it all!!!!
It's my dream to see IR beam for focusing in an RF remote it's so missing from all remotes ever made.
Personally the only thing the recievers need is an AA compartment but thats easy to do DIY.

The Good Reverend Ogalthorpe [deleted] says:
Good idea. You might want to think about putting the hotshoe on top of one the wide flat sides. That way you end up with a lover profile and your flash doesn't sit up so high on the stand.

Very creative. But also funny. It's rather like putting a set of Pirellis on a Ford Pinto. :-)
How much did it cost to do this?
