I considered this shot: "mother & child reunion"
* tightly framed portrait of a mother and child, she had not seen her son in 4 years, this was the first time they had both been together and I happened upon them in downtown Pittsburgh one afternoon
another street portrait: "U.S. Marine, Pittsburgher - street portrait"
*the U.S. Marine's stoic, cold stare into the lens really left an impression on me, this was taken shortly before he shipped out for Iraq in 2005
I have a few others that were part of a Spotlight Seven feature and you can view quite a few more street portraits on my website, main menu tab, street portrait folder.

In my recent street portrait this one has to be one of my favourite's, partially because I do love the composition itself, plus it has a great story along with it as well...

And, just for the record, I'm kind of doubting my Top 100 status, there are just too many great photographers in this group...

I was rather indecisive when it came to selecting photographs to submit. The four photos I had been contemplating on were all taken in New York last summer. These are the two I submitted Love is Unknown & Lost in the City, and these were the other two I decided to leave out.

Looks like Tate will be posting the 100 on Thursday. Best of luck to all of you!
This thread and the work you've all posted to it underscore what a tough job the judges had. We could put together a breathtaking gallery show drawn only from the images posted right here.
Thank you for accepting the invitation to post more of your photography. It's been an honor to see it and draw inspiration from it. Thanks, too, for the words of encouragement you've given one another here on the sidelines of what, after all, is a competition. You are proof that "competitors" don't need to cut each other down.
I've loved the experience of checking back every few hours to see the new images here. I hope others will add more for us to see. Again, thanks and best of luck.

Hi
Looking through these images makes the idea of a competition irrelevant. There is enough here - on this page for a survey of 'contemorary photography'. So here's mine.

OK. you amazing people.
Here's my new idea for passing the time. I've just created a new group: TateWait2008.
Here's the URL ...
www.flickr.com/groups/tatewait/
Here's the description:
A venue for participants in the Tate's "Street or Studio" project to channel anxiety/excitement/impatience/frustration into creative energy for new work.
Join the group and upload some brand-new work. I'll start with something I shot Wednesday and something from Thursday. I'll aim to shoot something today and both days over the weekend. I'll keep it up for as long as the Tate continues its deliberations.
Join me and do the same. Make NEW work. Do fancy stuff with a DSLR. Break out your Holga. Shoot with a camera phone. Whatever. Just make new stuff and share it with members of the inspiring temporary community that's grown up on this thread.

To anyone tempted to respond to the nastygrams that will inevitably appear on these threads ...

Like I was saying ...

Five of the fifty-some images I shot since my last post (between 12:27 a.m. and 1:36 a.m. Seattle time). I'm not claiming they're special. Just saying it was fun -- more fun than sleep and vastly more fun than getting into an argument online.
So again, my advice: Pick up your camera, make something new.
Oh, and one more pitch for anyone looking for an alternative to the Tate vigil ...
