About StoryCorps in Kansas City

KCUR 89.3 FM is bringing StoryCorps to Kansas City August 31 through September 23 in partnership with the City Market. StoryCorps will be collecting the stories of people throughout the region to add to the national audio archives at the Library of Congress.

Created by award-winning documentary producer David Isay, the main goal of StoryCorps is to collect 250,000 stories over a ten-year period and add them to the oral history archives in the Library of Congress. The project also seeks to encourage people to continue the tradition of oral storytelling. Two mobile booths have been touring the country since 2005 collecting the stories of everyday people. The tour is sponsored by NPR and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Local funding for StoryCorps’ visit to Kansas City is provided by William T. Kemper Foundation, Commerce Bank Trustee.

Listen to KCUR-FM to hear StoryCorps interviews gathered from people in cities across the country on Fridays during NPR's Morning Edition, 5 to 10 AM. And on Wednesdays during NPR's Morning Edition, listen to the stories of Kansas Citians recorded at the MobileBooth in the City Market.

Many stories are also available on-line at www.storycorps.net. Additional interviews from Kansas City will air on KCUR throughout the coming weeks.
