About Stiles-of-the-worldGood quality pictures of styles, from everywhere in the world. Stiles will be of timber and stone and the real definition of a style according to the online dictonary Wikipedia is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stile A stile is a set of steps for crossing over a fence or wall. They are generally found in rural areas and allow people to enter and leave fields but restrain animals . Most are made of wood. In the UK many stiles were built under legal compulsion, and for that reason a wide variety of designs exist, some calculated to be difficult to use. Recent changes in UK government policy towards farming has encouraged landowners in upland areas to make their land more available to the public and this has seen an increase in the number of stiles and an improvement in their overall condition. |
