1) Side-by-side stereoscopic pairs only.

2) No anaglyphs. True colour in each of the image pair is essential.

3) Aspect ratio for each image must equal or exceed 16:10 (1.6).

4) Image vertical pixel count must equal or exceed 1050 pixels.

5 Correct stereo window and precise alignment required, or large images become very hard to view.

About 3D: Large and Wide

Do you like 3D movies like Avatar? Do you want to make big, wide screen, stereoscopic pictures with your camera? Do you like stereoscopic panoramas? This is your group.

Previously, panorama stereo has been done in anaglyph or KMQ format, but we can do better now. As James Cameron found for Avatar, the secret is providing the image pairs in true colour and converting them to the stereo projection system available locally.

Conversion of the digital pairs on this group can be done on the fly, straight out of Flickr, using currently available software, such as StereoPhotoMaker (free):

Please don't post anaglyphs or small stereo pairs. There are many other groups with much larger audience for those. Anaglyphs are for a particular viewing system and the true colour cannot be extracted again, so anaglyph is a poor archival system.

Our companion group, 3D Big Pairs:

does not have a wide aspect ratio restriction, but expects better quality images. 3D panorama is difficult and we accept lesser quality versions here, for discussion on how we might do the wide thing better in 3d: Large and Wide.
