little toy camera - big world tour!!

firstly, an explanation:

the 'stereosampler' is a 35mm analog film 'toy' camera. it has two fixed focus lenses, takes two shots in one second but prints both shots onto one frame of film.

the general technique is to photograph something moving, or if you photograph something static, move the camera!

of course, when dealing with these 'toy' cameras, things that 'serious' photographers would try to avoid; such as lightleaks, odd blurs and other weird aesthetic accidents, are accepted as part of the 35mm 'toy camera' vibe. so let's enjoy those accidents. :))

this is a group inspired by man kissing bird's wonderful 'piglet's world tour 2010'idea:

i had the honour of being piglet's first host, and i enjoyed the experience so much, i wanted to develop a similar group, but expand the number of people [and places] involved.

hence this sterosampler 2010 world tour.

the principle is a reasonably simple one:

each 'stereosampler' group member will, at some point, receive the camera in the post.

camera should come with one suitable roll of 35mm film [provided by the previous user], a journal and a lovely little purse for [*very small*] trinkets and coins.

you keep the camera for one week, use the roll of film. get the film developed and post the shots you like to the group pool.

re the film, of course, should you wish to, you can use your own preferred make/speed of 35mm film, and simply pass the one you received with the camera onto the next recipient :)

take pictures of absolutely anything you want!!

feel free to write in the journal. once again, anything you want; thoughts, comments, poetry, whatever.

feel free to stick stamps from your country in the journal pages, or stickers, or anything you can think of [small of course] to put in the journal pages.

you can leave a coin, badge or any [small again please!] trinket you like in the purse.

40 people, 40 weeks [fate allowing!].

that should take us almost to the end of 2010!!

the dates are organised, as with most world tours, in legs. seemed to make sense rather than have the thing flying all over the planet!! i have tried to make the european leg a little more interesting by alternating the nations i.e. i didn't lump all the uk people together.

*the small print*

a few important things to consider:

everything depends on the camera actually working!! as fusty box is an incredibly talented and experienced analog photographer, i thought there would be no better contact for the first port of call.

once tim has a look at the shots the camera produces, we'll know if it's worth continuing the tour.

as in the 'piglets world tour 2010' group, i will be designing a 'tour tee shirt' for this group, it would be nice to have everybody's home town for the 'tour dates' section of the tee :)

i realise, of course, that fate may well conspire to offer delays and other gremlins. we'll cross those bridges if [or is that when] they appear!

should the camera get lost in transit, or broken [it's only plastic], i have another in reserve.

on closing, i know this concept is a little 'ambitious', but i really did want to start some kind of 'global' flickr group. if dr fuckup visits, as i say, we'll attend to any problems as they arise.

one thing about film, i have almost no knowledge regarding analog photography, but i have read [and have to agree] that it is best to use 400 speed 35mm film with this type of camera.
