first time: results problems questions concerns
|
That's a very impressive first attempt! Well done.
Green cast: If this was on film I would have maybe cited reciprocity failure of a film like velvia for the green cast but since it's digital, it's probably just a colour balance issue (unless the sky really was green). What was your colour balance set to? Even if it was on auto, the camera may have read the scene wrong. You could easily try to sort it in ACR or lightroom if you shot RAW...or even if you didn't.
Corners burning out: During long exposures, sensor heat tends to build up. This is normally most apparent at the corners so I'd say odds on that that's what's causing the purple corners problem.
In order to avoid noisy corners I'd suggest trying a stacking method; basically take a series of 30 second exposures and then stack them in post processing to achieve startrails.
There's a free program available for this very technique which works very well:
www.startrails.de/html/software.html
Also this is a very useful link which explains how to get a good foreground exposure into your trail shots (among other things):

Hope that helps.

Good First attempt. I do recommend the stacking method tho. Works like a charm and controls the background light pollution (at least im my case)

I've just started using the software from startrails.de and it's very good - one image loaded into my photostream (only chance I've had so far) built up using it.

Only thing that (very, very) mildly annoys me about the stacking method is the fact that you can see minute gaps in the trails at 100% crops made between exposures...obviously this is just from a pixel peeping perspective though so it's not a big deal...and it's miles better than a mountain of noise covering a shot.
