"Starcross is a riverside village with a population of approximately 2,000, situated on the west bank of the Exe Estuary. The village is popular in summer with leisure craft and is home to one of the UK's oldest sailing clubs. The A379 road (Exeter Road/The Strand) and the London to Penzance railway line both run through the village along the banks of the estuary. In addition to the railway station, the small Starcross to Exmouth passenger ferry operates across the estuary to Exmouth. A notable feature of Starcross is the Italianate pumping engine house, the best surviving building from Brunel's unsuccessful Atmospheric Railway." Starcross parish runs along the Exe Estuary foreshore from north of the village, just past the start of the minor road along the front (east) of Powderham Park, south to (and including) Cockwood harbour (but not the main part of Cockwood village south of the harbour) and inland over mostly agricultural land and some woodland as far west as Black Forest Lodge and Mamhead fishing pond and including: Staplake Mount, Tiverland Farm, Vennbridge Farm, Westlake Farm, Manacroft, Mowlish, Brickhouse Farm, part of Duckaller (but not the farm), Cofford, Easter Hill and part of Cockwood Marsh (see: map of Kenton with Starcross ward on the Teignbridge website).
