ok, so i was shooting in Starbucks yesterday...

I was shooting in Starbucks yesterday, for this pool, when I was suddenly approached by the 17 year old barista. He informed me that I wasn't allowed to take photos there because Starbucks didn't want their store's interior decor/design stolen and copied.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Misconception of what is true. I'm a manager for the company and what people are not allowed to take pictures of are things like our menu board or if they just stand over their and take pictures of our displays. If you're in their taking photos of your friends and what not it is perfectly ok. It's one of the many things that gets blown out of proportion... hell if they want it bad enough.. they'll get it. It should be no problem as long as you're not with the media.

That's true! It is the company wide policy. I do it anyway.

OFTEN, there is some low level employee (who swears he should be promoted) who decides to enforce rules that don't even exist.
So many companies have written policies for returns, guarantees, photography, etc., but there is always some imbecile who will never ever own his own company, but decides he knows which policies should be amended or changed.
Manager: "The policy is we except all returns with a receipt no matter what"
Imbecile: "I know, but but but...."
Customer: Goes online and talks about his experience and you lose a customer/s because they think that is the culture and/or policies of your company.

I have never had a problem before with taking pictures in a starbucks. It is that you can't take pictures of what they have in the case and how some things are upset but big wow, I'm not there to get pictures like that anyways. Sorry to hear about the problem that you had.
