About Springfield Interchange
This is a geographically miniscule group designed for photos of a single highway construction project: The Springfield Interchange, affectionately known as the Mixing Bowl, and located in Springfield, Virginia. It's at the point where the major north-south interstate serving the immediate D.C. area, I-95, joins I-495, the Washington Beltway.
Here's a clip from the VDOT website:
"Everyday 430,000 vehicles pass through the Springfield Interchange, where I-95, 395 and 495 come together.... The improvement project will take up to 8 years to complete.
The project consists of building more than 50 bridges and widening I-95 to 24 lanes between the Beltway and Franconia Road."
