About Whale Shark Identification

Hi Everyone

Thanks for stopping by and having a look at this group. We are a bunch of Flickr fans who have an avid interest in the conservation of whale sharks. This group will aim to educate others about the use of a photo identification library program and conservation of whale sharks and their habitat.

The majority of the work involved using the ECOCEAN Whale Shark Photo-identification Library which is a visual database of whale shark encounters and of individually catalogued whale sharks from around the globe. The Library uses photographs of the skin patterning behind the gills of each shark and any scars to distinguish between individual animals.

The reason for this group is too capture as many photos; of whale sharks as possible from around the globe. And invite the photographer too submit these photos both in the group and, if they're good identification shots, on www.whaleshark.org

This will hopefully then lead the researchers into a greater understanding about these magnificent creatures.
