01 Feb 11 - A "spike," in the lingo of the land business: a holdout threatening a larger development plan
The iconic image is front-on view showing the earlier structure engulfed by a larger newer structure (or structures) whose design(s) may have been altered due to the presence of the pesky earlier building.
Front-on photos of situations that might have been spikes are okay too (see below).
If the building is a true (documented) spike, other perspectives (e.g. from above) are also ok.

About Spikes & Holdouts
A "spike," in the lingo of the land business: a holdout threatening a larger development plan
Photos of an older structure, flanked and dwarfed by newer, larger structure(s).
The iconic image would be a front-on view showing the earlier structure flanked by pair of (contemporaneous) newer, taller structures, OR a single more recent structure whose design may have been altered due to the presence of the pesky earlier building.
Other perspectives (e.g. from above) are okay if this is a documented spike (links please, in those cases).
ALSO ACCEPTABLE for this group are photos that fit the iconic image as defined above (older, smaller, flanked by newer, larger structure(s)) even when it is not known to represent a true spike, as defined above.
Any situation that appears as if it could have been a spike is acceptable, whether or not there was an actual unsuccessful struggle by developers to get a holdout to sell. It might have happened a hundred years ago and the history is lost or buried in some county courthouse file.
If you have a time series over the course of construction it is encouraged to add those to the pool in one solid block.
