About Spartanburg Photography Club
Welcome to the Spartanburg Photography Club
This club is about actively promoting and encouraging the community to become more involved with the art of photography. This is an online club encouraging members to share their photography and to constructively critique one another's work.
Will there be meetings?
Yes. No. Sorta.
Once a month a topic will be posted to the discussion forum to announce a photo outing. Members are invited to make suggestions for unique shooting locations on public property throughout Spartanburg County. Attendance is not required, but encouraged.
Can anyone join?
Mostly. I do ask that you either live in Spartanburg or the surrounding area (Cherokee, Greenville, Laurens, Union, Cleveland & Rutherford counties) or that you are a Spartanburg native who lives elsewhere.
Do I need to have a spiffy camera?
No. You just need to have an interest in photography and a willingness to participate. One thing that you will definitely need is either a digital camera or digital copies of your prints/negatives.
This sounds great! How do I join?
Well, obviously you need to be a member of Flickr. So start there. Flickr is free and so is membership to this club.
Once you've done that, just click on the blue "Join This Group" button on the right. The rest will happen automagically. :)
How do I post pictures to the group?
From the FAQr:
Easy! If you belong to the group, just add your photo to the group pool (if not, join the group first, because only members of a group can contribute to the group pool).
The easiest way add a photo to a group is to go to the photo's page, and click on the "Send to Group" button that you should see between the photo title and the photo itself. Click that, then choose the group you want to send it to, and you're done!
Once a photo is in a group pool, only you and the group adminstrators can remove it.
Note: If you share a photo that you've marked as private with a group you are a member of, it's as if other members of the group have full access to that photo. This means they will be able to add comments, notes and tags. The photo won't show for people who aren't members of the group though.
What's with the assignments?
Assignments will be posted weekly in the discussion forum. They are not mandatory and you will not receive any kind of grade. It's simply a challenge to be completed. Hopefully you will learn something from the experience and through the sharing of your images and commentary, we will all learn something.
Okay. Now, how do I post my photos to the assignment threads?
Again from the FAQr:
Click on a photo you wish to add to a discussion, then click on "All Sizes" if it is available above the photo. Choose the size you wish to copy (Please select small for the assignments).
Scroll towards the bottom of the screen to get to the HTML code (Choose the FIRST option!), right-click on that box, select Copy from the shortcut menu that appears, then go to where you wish to paste the photo into the discussion post. Right-click again and click on Paste.
Wow! This sounds great? Anything else I should know about?
Yes! I almost forgot! This is a Family Friendly group.
Go take some pictures! :)
