About Space Elevator
Pictures that chronicle the development of an “Elevator to Space”.
What images are in this group?
1) This could be teams involved with the NASA Centennial Challenges, or companies – like LiftPort.com – (and others) that are working very hard to create the Elevator.
2) It could be hardware of robotic “Lifters”, or Carbon Nanotube furnaces, or balloons or ribbon or anything else that ‘fits’ the theme.
3) There are a number of conferences, events and speaking opportunities that the liftportambassador.org team (and other people) attend.
4) Finally, this site could be a place to post images that you have created; that tell the story of what a Space Elevator could look like. Use your imagination, and add to the project, by posting pictures.
Everyone is invited to contribute to this global project. Four years ago, at its inception, LiftPort created the “International Public Inclusion Policy” (www.liftport.com/ipi.policy.html) to help people understand and connect with the project. We consider this Flickr Group to a part of that effort. These pictures are a way of telling the story. There will be progress, and setbacks which will be followed by more progress.
There are people, places, things, ideas and milestones along the way and someone will be there with a camera… This site should serve as a holding bin, and we should be able to invite people into our community by introducing them to this Flickr group.
This Flickr group is one more step in ‘opening’ the Space Elevator to a “global village.” We are beginning to develop a data warehouse with our wiki (www.liftport.com/wiki) where technical and scientific information will be available to anyone that would like to get involved. These pictures are a way of showing you what is ‘going up!’ in the Space Elevator world.
It would be great to have descriptions of what you are uploading… This site is about ‘telling the story’ so try to write something about the images you are posting. There are not many descriptions with the pictures I have posted but they are soon to come. As I write more I will post the updates on our blog. (www.liftport.com/external/blog.html )
Please, feel free to contribute. There are 10,000 images of the Space Elevator Competitions alone… so consider the few that I am posting to be a starting point.
My personal Flickr screen name is “Space Elevator Guy,” so if you would like to be a ‘contact’ just let me know.
Take care,
Michael Laine
