Here is a summary of the assignment you were given in class. Post additional questions you have here...

Shoot one good pic for one each of the following shots:

1. unusual camera angle
(be creative, get really close to something, or above or below)

2. stop action
(use the sports setting or a really fast shutter speed like 1/1000. You'll probably want to take this one outside with good light)

3. blurred action or motion
(change to night scene or use a slower shutter speed like 1/30, 1/15 or longer. You will probably need a tripod.)

4. back light creating a silhouette
(only lighting will be behind the subject)

5. reflection
(the bulk of the image will be from a reflected surface)

6. dramatic lighting
(one light source directly on the object)

7. abstract shot
(emphasizes shape, texture, or line, rather than subject matter)

8. deep space
(something is in the foreground, but there is also something really far away, maybe a landscape setting, or in av mode, a high numbered aperture like 16 or 22)

9. extreme close up
(macro button, or in av mode a low number like 1.4)

10. interesting shadow effect
(take a picture that emphasized an interesting shadow

11.portrait with shallow depth of field
(use portrait setting or in av mode a low number like 1.4)

12. use of color
(make color be the most important thing about this photo)

These pics are due Thursday, September 16.
You are expected to come to class with pictures taken, with your cord or other way of transferring photos. Do not upload to flickr on your own.

You will complete the following items in class:
1. upload these photos to your photostream
2.make sure that these 12 pics are sent to our group.
3. Use at least two tags on each pic, one that says "elements" and one that describes which category that your picture is fullfilling, like "color" or "shadow" etc.
4. Other tags that would help flickr users find your picture.
5. Turn in a contact sheet with all 12 on it (in class).

If you'd like to show us an example from the past, you can use that for one of the categories... but I want the rest of your photos to be new.

Each assignment we do in here is to practice certain skills, but also to give you a pool of interesting material to work on in photoshop later...

yes. you can use portrait mode in general for things other than people, but for Friday take a photo of a person.

(close up of a person's face or head and shoulders, rather than full body view)

once you upload them to your account, you need to click on the box above each picture that says "send to group" ...then pick our group. OR click the organize button and move them all to the group at once.

Are we allowed to edit the photos in any way? Like make them b&w or change the brightness and contrast a bit?

You can change brightness and contrast, but let's wait on more drastic edits. I want to show you the photoshop software and spend your time on that vs. the standard softwares...

Can we send them at different times? Like, send two one day, four later etc?

yep, as long as you have them all taken by your due date (mon for even, tues for odd)

Your options are to upload from home (best option)
or bring your camera and cords to class so that you can upload during school. (ok option)
or to forget stuff (late option)

Reminder:

Tag each of these 12

-"element" or "elements"
-subject matter
-type of shot

Each photo should therefore have at least 3 tags.
This will cost you points if you don't do it.

-Create a jump drive folder with the 12 in it labeled "ELEMENTS CONTACT SHEET"
