OK, 2nd attempt at description that I hope Flickr holds on to this time!!
Southwest Social Group
Welcome to a new group that's we've thought about for a little while but now it's 'gone to press'!
What is it? Well, we have a group in Somerset (Somerset Flickrmeet) that's been running successfully for a while with regular meets in the local area. This group is intended to sit alongside the local groups but expand the membership and geographical scope for social photography meets across the SW of England!
Where in the SW? There are many views about what can be included in the south-west, but for the purposes of this group we want to make it as broad as possible, including:
Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Bristol, S.Gloucs and W.Hampshire.
To make the group accessible for all, there won't be a defined border!
Who can join? Easy answer - anyone! So many of my contacts take trips to or holiday in the areas covered by the group I thought it'd be good to include anyone who comes to the south-west and may fancy a 'local' or group of us to show them some of the great places to take a camera! Of course, locals are quite welcome too!
What is the aim of the group? Broadly, to allow fellow 'togs to get together and either enjoy a trip out taking shots, enjoy a trip out taking shots and then having a pie and pint, or simply having the pie and pint if the weather turns out to be bad!! (it happens, it is the UK after all!)
There won't be a fixed hierarchy to the group, you'll no doubt see some regular names here but don't let it put you off - when the Somerset group first started, none of the members there had met anyone else and the common hobby makes it very easy to break the ice!
Trips, events and meet-ups As the area covered by the group is so large, we hope to be able to cover everyone's interests at some point (we all have favourite subjects and ones we don't particular have interest in!). Meets may be regular for a group or could be just a couple of members.
We have got loads of ideas for trips already, get involved in the discussions and let's create a great group!
