Snapping Southwark - Photograph Competition
|
"Southwark is holding its first-ever photography competition with over £700 worth of prizes! And, as well as a cash prize, you will receive a stunning A2 size print of your photo - imagine that on your wall!
The theme of the competition, organised through the community councils, is "Postcards from Southwark" and we're looking for positive images that show the rich diversity of Southwark's people and landmarks.
There are three categories in which to enter, under-18s, over-18s, and a category for your mobile phone images too".
You can enter up to five images and the competition closes on December 1st 2005.
For more information click here...
If any of you decide to enter please post your entries here with the tag "snappingsouthwark".

I was tempted by this when I first saw it, but it kind of looks like Southwark Council wanting to boost their photo library on the cheap to me. The prizes aren't all that really. The Thames Festival competition might be worth entering though:

Oh, yeah, well the prizes are a bit rubbish - but it makes the Flickys look like, well... the Flickys (sorry to use the F-word).
If one of us won we could treat the Awards Ceremony at the Globe as a glorified London Flickr Meetup, blow the prize money on beer and still have enough change for a kebab on the way home.

Anyone entering this year? I'm planning to, but I agree it is a cheap way of Southwark council filling their photo library.

I went to the awards ceremony last night. One of the winners took a nice photo of Tower Bridge from More London, but whilst in the process of taking photos More London security team decided to ban him from taking photos on their property. I said he should have mentioned it to Nick Stanton, leader of Southwark Council who was there as a judge of the competition.
I hopefully persuaded a few people to sign up to flickr. Apparently the photos will be exhibited at the South London Gallery some time soon...

I am that photographer. I joined flickr and have just found this group. This is a common problem which anyone who shoots in locations like More London or Canary Wharf will experiance, sooner or later the security guards will come and get you. They do not have the law on their side but they think they own the sky.
Under S62 of
the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, it is not an infringement of copyright in a building (i.e. the architectural plans) to make a photograph or film of it. The same applies to works of sculpture on permanent public display. You are therefore entitled to take your photographs without the permission of the building's owners. I got this advice from "own-it". www.own-it.org

There is no information yet on Council's website about the new "Postcards from Southwark" competition, (or I haven't found it myself). If there is such competition, it must close in December 2007, no? And not 2005 as it is stated above.
