About Southern History

A home for images that document the people and events from the history of the American South. "Old" photographs depicting the actual persons and events from the history of the South are highly preferred, rather than "new" photographs of Southern things that are historic. (However, before-and-after images are always appreciated.)

Group nurtured by the staff of the Southern Historical Collection (SHC) in Wilson Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The SHC is home to approximately 20 million individual documents, letters, photographs, diaries, ledgers, sound recordings, films, and artifacts - all documenting the history of the American South.
