About Space of Joy community

History of the space of joy community is endless throughout the times. Our modest contribution on it was made in summer 2003 – it was a striking performance, cynical and joyful, thundering for 25 hours in the center of Saint-Petersburg.

In May 2004 there was the first "Sisto-Palty" – a crazy forest trip that lasted many days on the bank of the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea, dedicated to the awakening of northern nature, Druid holiday Samayan, the international day of the labour solidarity and the day of victory over the evil powers. Since that time the festival compelled more and more attention, right up to 2008, consolidating friendly relations.

A year-long break between the performances was caused by the community's implication into a bright urban project – super fashionable neuro-space club, situated in the main street of Saint-Petersburg – Nevskij avenue.
In August 2004 there was the second SOJ festival in the northern part of the Gulf of Finland. By this time the community's propensity for open-airs in extreme conditions with ecological component becomes obvious. This was confirmed by the festival "Fire Mystery" in autumn the same year.

After the second "Sisto-Palty" in 2005 the activity increased notably. Drum&Bass party in workshops of a big factory where the young people joined to repulse the servants of order who tried to stop the music is worth mentioning. Some gatherings occurred in the places of active military operations or even in functioning ordnance yards that also leads onto thinking. Sometimes German, Russian, Finnish soldiers, knights dressed in steel and forest inhabitants wrapped in fells joined in dance – it was the beginning of the civilizations confluence in the united field of awareness. This process also displayed in the community's adventurous trip to African shores – to Morocco, where the festival "Camp Desert Vieve" took place several years running.

SOJ community decorated a part of the territory and made supporting bases in such festivals as "Elixiria" in Finland, "Transit" in Spain, "Boom" in Portugal.

The community took part in preparations for "Souclipce" in Turkey. Also SOJ made parties in Finland and Germany by own strength supported by German friends who leaved their burrows and followed SOJ to Russia where they became not only the main power of the community, but also formed new creative alliances (6sun) where the modern technologies combined naturally with deep understanding of the root relation of cultures.

The third SOJ festival brought guests and organizers new wide experience which helped to understand that both of them are the participants and the creators. This powerful cultural performance having all the features of an international festival took place in a canyon of the north Caucasus on the bank of the Black Sea. The commune of about a hundred members had been restoring Cossack base destroyed by natural disaster for a month. They even had to pave a new way in the mountains, as the transporting of things was difficult because of heavy sea. A few thousand people decorated the sea-shore of Gelendzhik area and this fact drew attention of the district administration. Though the festival had its own currency and no external control, the district administration had a negative influence on the guests' spirits and resorted to the help of the sanitary commission that in its turn found no fault with anything except the documentation of the base itself. Despite all the difficulties, the sound lasted for a week.

SOJ 2006 dedicated as the former to Mayan New year – the day out of time – flew smoothly, dissolving in the light of the hot Crimean sun. No one will forget the week spent in Bodhisaray – Mosfilm decoration of Bukhara built by Tajiks on the bank of the Black Sea surrounded by picturesque mountains in the place of nature convulsion that occurred thousands years ago.The cadet guard of the Ukrainian specnaz – lop-eared guys in black uniform with the word "Tiger" on it drew people's attention. They were like those white tigers that guard the celestial garden.

In winter 2005-2006 there were two remarkable performances: New Year and Maslenitsa (Slavic pagan holiday). Two thousands of people played pranks for several days in a decoration fabric of the 19th century near Moscow. Some were carried away by the exciting feelings of unity in the vast halls decorated with artificial and living trees and Indian sculpture groups.

Every full moon in autumn, winter and spring 2006-2007 there were experimental in Russian realities musical and theatrical events combining different kinds of art and creative tendencies. The creative confluence of cultures becomes the main aim of the SOJ community. Within the limits of 6sun group there appeared an experimental vanguard theatre "PagandArm", basing in the territory of a paper fabric in the centre of Moscow. At the same time the series of parties with general name "Intelligent Manipulations" that perform exploring music, so-called music of the new generation, are developing. The spring of 2007 was rich in the Crimean events that occurred in different "powerful" places with interesting history. SOJ 2007 – Intelligent Maya – had a week program and took place in a valley among the Crimean mountains, uninhabited area surrounded by oak forests. It's worth mentioning that the festival was in ecological and healthy camp with the name "Nursery", that hints at raising up some qualities or even creatures.

The further creative plans of the SOJ community are filled with optimism. The nearest plan is the organization of a long lasting festival in beautiful and mystic Altayan mountains, where the total solar eclipse will occur on the 1st of August 2008. SOJ hopes for the cooperation with creative groups all over the world – only in this case a real global festival is possible. There'll be different events – some became traditional and some are filled with new senses. SOJ actively takes part in making parties and festivals and in its turn is open for the creative activity of the artists all over the world........

Even great is the sun that lights this road up – the idea of creative art. The Art Beyond Time. For how else can the creative art exist but within movement and besides staying beyond the time?
Drawing the energy from the magnet of universe, which is unattainable but always present, meeting all along the road those who go our way and accomplishing our ideas together, we’re occupied with living. Neither
regreting past nor hoping for future, just enjoying the present, we are completely open and ready for everything that the space offers us!

And the music! It moves, it creates the resonance – it fills the vibration of the road with the tone, and that’s the tempo and the rhythm. The rhythm of our heart!
