About SOFIENSAELE wien
....In August 2001 while roof repairs were happening on the Sofiensaal ,a fire erupted.
The 160 year old building was initially a bathhouse, and a ballroom - (The pool was closed in the winter, and covered with parquet flooring - you can see the pool area with the concert grand on it in some of the photos .)
Some of Johannes Strauss' compositions were premiered here.
During WWII, this place was used by the Nazis, but in 1948 it was re-opened to the public.
The building, since the 2001 fire has been closed and still awaits restoration.
....vor 160 jahren erbauter saal der bis zur jahrhundertwende als schwimmbad dann als ball-und konzertsaal genutzt wurde zwischenzeitlich in den händen der nazis dann wieder veranstaltungsort für theater konzert und feste. bis im august 2001 flämmarbeiten am dach, ein feuer entzündeten welches den saal ausbrennen ließ.bis zum heutigem tag andauernde nutzungsuneinigkeiten ließen den saal in den auf den photos sichtlichen zustand verfallen........
