About Snell's WindowThe purpose of the group is for posting images that illustrate Snell's Law. Generally speaking when an underwater photograph is taken of the surface, the light is refracted into a cone of light which has a width of about 96 degrees. This creates an effect similar to vignetting - in that the image is concentrated into a circular "window". Outside that window, everything else looks dark or may show reflections of subjects which are also underwater. |
