musk-n-vinegar (a group admin) says: 01 Jun 08 - Please keep in mind the concept outlined below. If I OK'd every shot ever submitted, variety and impact (as a group) would suffer. With rejected shots, usually the impact to 'Joe Viewer' is low (scentwise), or the actual scent is unclear, or it's too repetitive of an existing shot... though they're often great shots otherwise, so don't take it personally. Submit what you like, just fair warning re: odds of approval. Think 'immersion', 'potency', 'clarity', and 'recognizability' combined.

About Smell-o-vision

Smell-o-vision is a place for your photos which tend to induce an immediate, involuntary sensation of scent in the viewer. Please read the few guidelines below before adding one of your photos. Thanks! :o) If you just want to view, the slideshow option works well with these photos, I think.
Guidelines:
The scent in your photo can be "good", "bad", or neutral. But it should be immediately obvious to any viewer, not just the original photographer. Neither thought, nor interpretation, nor reading any text should be required to have the sensation: the goal is an instinctive reaction, the more powerful the better. Think immediate and undiluted. The group aims for quality/variety over quantity.
Fair warning, most simple flower shots won't pass moderation! If every flower shot was considered, the group would be over-run in no time. If you have a flower-related shot that conveys scent especially well, feel free to add it; but most shots of flowers, no matter how fragrant in "real life", won't make it in. There's some subjectivity in moderating what 'fits' and what doesn't, but that seems unavoidable.
Some food is OK, but any food photos should appear unusually aromatic. A good close-up of a loaf of fresh-baked, steam-wafting, bread just coming out of the oven would be one of those; a still-life of a day-old half loaf probably not, no matter how tasty the bread. It's not merely a "looks tasty" group, there are lots of other places for that.
The following types of images will be unceremoniously deleted: those that completely ignore the above ground rules; off-topic; low quality (including ads for sites with URLs, logos etc.); or practically identical to something already in the group (and without improving on it). Hopefully more rules won't be necessary. If in doubt, go ahead and post and we'll see what happens.
New 12-29-07: To balance variety, impact, and quality, when I get a submission that pretty much duplicates one or more already in the group, I'll consider how well each fits the group, and only keep the top one to three photos. Since this is new, and to express thanks for the early posters, it won't apply to shots submitted before today. It may mean a few others get deleted now and then though... please take it in the spirit of friendly 'competition' and the concept of the group! :o)
I'm hoping for lots of variety, a very focused theme, and a decent quality of images... if you have something that fits well, please add it, and let's see what develops!
