About It's A Small World (Mapped Photos Only; Read the Rules)

Using only photos with map locations tagged to them (using flickr's map tag function), we're going to take a trip around the world and back and then around again...or find out that it's impossible. The idea is to post a photo here ONLY IF it was taken close to where the last photo in the stream was taken (according to that photo's flickr map tag).

Look at the map tag of the last photo posted in this group and see if you have a photo taken near it, based on the map. The location is important because it will determine whether you may post your photo here and how you should tag your photo.

Eligibility to Post

To post a photo here, it must be mapped on Yahoo!Maps and it must have been taken anywhere located on the map for the most recently posted picture at level 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 -- unless you're allowed to "fly" to a new location (You can do this by posting a photo taken near an airport after a photo that was also taken near an airport. Before you "fly," please see below for details on "flying.")

Tagging Photos You Post

If your photo was taken anywhere on the map when it was zoomed in all the way, post it and tag your photo " Map100 " (you get 100 points, which I wish were redeemable for frequent flyer miles!)

If your photo was taken anywhere on the map when it is 1 or 2 levels from being zoomed in all the way, please post it and tag your photo " Map 50 "

If your photo was taken anywhere on the map when it is 3 or 4 levels from being zoomed in all the way, please post it and tag your photo " Map 25 "

If your photo was taken anywhere on the map when it is 5 levels from being zoomed in all the way, please post it and tag your photo " Map10 "

Use Photos Near Airports To Fly Around The World!

If the map for a previous photo was tagged Map100 or Map50 AND has a major airport visible, you may post a photo from anywhere in the world as long as the map for YOUR photo also has a major airport visible at either full zoom, 1 level removed or 2 levels removed. Tag your photo Map100 and MapFly so we know that you decided to fly from the previous location.

The Admins' Hyperspace Button

Sometimes we will hit a dead end, run out of gas, or get caught in a traffic jam. If we should get "stuck" somewhere for too long, an Admins will post a photo at a new location and tag it MapNew . Those of you who played the arcade game "Asteroids" will understand why this measure is called the "Hyperspace Button" and why Admins will try to use it sparingly.

Some Obvious Caveats and Provisos and Fair Warnings

Don't "Jump" The Stream.. If you're not an Admin and you decide to "Hyperspace" this stream, we reserve the right to Hyperspace you from this group.

Tag Your Photos. Tagging photos is important, so please tag yours.

No limits; no waiting. As long as you're in the map of the prior photo and tag yours, there's no limit on how many photos you can post here and no waiting. If you think you must, post 12 from the same location (but be sure to tag all of them).

"Artsy" Photos Not Required. Photos posted here can be really lousy and don't have to be artistic. It's about the map, not technique.

Family Friendly Photos Only. Your photos have just one substantive standard they must adhere to: they must be "family friendly" (a term that, for purposes of this group, means that your photo won't provoke a negative reaction from a librarian or police officer if another flickr member is looking at the photo on a computer at a public library).

Invite Others Who Took Pictures Near Yours or the Most Recent One. You can expedite the process by viewing the most recent picture in the stream and then looking up the other flickr pictures posted nearby. People with pictures taken nearby are most likely to want to join in because they'll be able to post right away!
