"People have the right to create and own more then one identity"
 |
[Follow-up debate from: "RL" is a major language error! ]
Personally I do use multiple identities as part of my freedom of creative individual expression. I believe it should be a fundamental part of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
"People have the right to create and own more then one identity"
And: "People have the right to keep their multiple identities seperated for reasons of privacy, creativity and spirituality and so"
What are your opinions on this?

I fully agree .... to not talk about SL activities which are enough committing without having a rain of unsolicited IM while you are trying to work :)
That doesn't mean i am full of alts ...LOL

Well, in SL I have three alts. But each serves it's own purpose. My primary (my Drow avi) is my roleplay avi. I have alot going on with her related to the role I play as a Drow character; activities which are real in the context of I enjoy playing the role and she is an extension of the side of me I keep subdued.
My other two avis are different personas from her. As one friend who knew all three pointed out to me "I love seeing these three sides of you. It's great seeing the depths of someone I care about." Some of us can only safely express those depths in the semi annonymous world of cyberspace.

I have only two who work in different fields ... I keep them separate more for a matter of better use of time than for other reasons .. in fact I don't care more than a bit to keep it a well kept secret .
It just "defends" me from having an aggression of IMs while I am doing something important and I can't answer without look umpolite .
I have never played with the two Identities and I will be overly boring but my two babies are quite similar in look , style and behaviour .
That's why I have a thing for transf/ no copy items, so the two ladies can exchange clothes and shoes like two good friends :)).LOL
Pity I ALWAYS have to buy two of every skin and hair , that are never transfer , ..but If I build a suitable look for one of them that I like , then I am not able to see the other with a different less cared look .
But notwithstanding all that, there is always me behind the screen so no wonder that some really good friend could find it out without too much effort :))
To be honest even if I have been targeted with criticisms of duplicity at the beginning ( now my younger avie goes for second rezday) I have never cared too much .
In fact the life even the second one is showing I was right in forecasting that need , now after almost 3 years in sl the activities and the social life of many old friends have become so frantic and full immersive that the same ones who criticized me if want have a little time for themselves ( to build , script , or just listen some music in peace for half an hour ) had to create alts .ehehehehe !!
I just started first :)))

LOL I love your post Arialee. And I can relate to those friends who have little time.
My Drow started SL as a stripper. So I would look Drow but sometimes but go human depending on the client. However, I used to get called on for double and triple shifts and then couldn't enjoy myself because the game was becoming work.
So I created my first alt and told NO ONE. :)) Then I had time to do the things I wanted without my boss getting me to go in for another shift.
My third alt came about as a way to go on dates with my rl relationship since we had little time or money to go out off screen. So yes, each of my characters is different in appearance and attitude and interests.
But each is part of me. It's always me behind the pixels. And doing things in the game that I couldn't do in my rl is what makes it real to me.
Having alts isn't always about being deceitful; although, to be fair, I've met a few who use alts to pester others to the point of stalking. In my case however, it's a chance to explore other place in sl and do other things other than what my primary character is embroiled in. I just don't plan on having six or seven more LOL
