Moderation keeps going on
First of all, thank you for all your great contributions to the group. I am really thankful to see so much beautiful high quality portraiture in one place.

Please read the group description!
I keep on deleting photos that do not fit in the group description and unfortunately it mostly concerns photos of cute little children... Yes, they are cute, but that doesn't make a striking portrait automatically.

Thank you! Hans.

THIS IS A GROUP ABOUT HIGH QUALITY SIMPLE YET STRIKING PORTRAITURE!

We need portraits of human beings that in their elegant simplicity reach deep down, grab you by the hair and draw you into the spirit of the model and/or the photographer.

FAQ's
You may have these questions about posting to this group:

Will this group be moderated?
YES!!! This is a group about high quality simple and striking portraiture. Not every photo that has a human being in it meets those criteria. So moderation occurs on a daily basis.

Can I post pics of my lovely pets?
HELL NO!!! Only human beings please...

Can I post pics of my cute children/family?
Well, you can try but they don't have much chance. Of course I believe they are cute and their portrait may be striking to you, but in most cases not to us. I'm sorry... cute and striking are different things.

Do you prefer B&W or colour?
Personally I prefer B&W!!! I think the colour has to add something to the portrait, otherwise stick to B&W. In most cases we don't need the distracting colours, they cover the essence of the model. And... here comes in the "simple"-criterium. Less colour means more simplicity...

Can I post cut-outs (partially desaturated images)?
NO!!! We don't need a B&W bride with a red rose in her hair... or other images of the kind. The portrait that needs such a gimmic is not striking by itself.

Can I post Photoshopped images?
YES, but hold back a little! We all want our images to look the best possible, right? So use Photoshop to enhance your portraits, but don't create worlds that do not exist in reality.

Is a photo of a really famous/handsome person a striking portrait?
NOT NECESSARILY! Being famous or handsome doesn't help I'm afraid. We are all human beings. Portraits should reflect that. Shallow beauty or fame does not make a portrait more interesting.

Is nudity allowed?
YES! As long it still concerns portraiture you are more than welcome to post nudity. So guess what happens to porn...?

So can you give us some examples of what you think is * * * SIMPLE YET STRIKING PORTRAITURE * * *?
Well of course...

Get the point? :-)

So... what we DO need is:
- soul grabbing stares
- simple compositions
- expressions
- humans
- honesty
- world peace (well, maybe not as a result of posting to this group...)
- the simple sheer beauty of a face (yes, an ugly face can have beauty too...)
- B&W, not necessarily but preferrably
- portraits of grown-ups, not necessarily but preferrably

Greetings, surprise me!
