About Simple Tool, Superb Photo!
About This Group:
This is a group for photos taken with simple tools. By SIMPLE TOOLS we mean point & shoot digital cameras, compact film cameras or other things without as much manual function as DSLRs, Special welcomes are for cameras which are inexpensive (eg. a digital camera under USD 200), tools extremely simple in structure (eg. a pinhole camera or a toy camera) or something whose major purpose is NOT taking photos (eg. a cell phone or PDA).
One of the major ends of this group is to find how wonderful a photo could be with the limited might of camera. Somehow it is a reactionary campaign to the pervasive pursuit for expensive gears. Yes, they are great tools to take great photos and (maybe) all of us hanker them, but having a Nikon D3 or Canon 1Ds Mark III is not the only way to have good works.
As a result of it, this group is looking for photos taken by eyes, brains and hearts just behind the images, not those taken by hardworking optic engineers in the remote lab.
As a result of it, this group encourage its members to find out the limitation of their simple tools, and to turn their attention from sharpness and saturation contributed by lens to the composition, emotion and storytelling.
So the strictest rule of this group would be: NO DSLR! Yes they are wonderful tools, but there are a almost every group pools greeting them. If there is a marvelous photo taken with DSLR added to the pool, it would be deleted. The administrators might add it as her/his fav., but he/she should remove it from the pool - to be a great photo is one thing, but to be suitable for this group is another.
Photos taken with point & shoot digital cameras with manual functions (eg. Canon G series and A series, or Nikon P series)are allowed to be posted in the pool, though not encouraged.
Lomography is welcome, especially those taken with inexpensive, simplistic toy cameras. At the same time, We will feel grateful for your assuring that the photo was made by an interesting brain, an interesting moment or an interesting occasion - not an interesting camera.
Film cameras would make difficulties for administrators - we can never know exactly what kind camera was a photo taken with. Is that a Hasselblad, an SLR or a pinhole camera? With the EXIF we can never tell. Therefore, this group is not so tough when facing a photo made by a film camera - unless the photographer has announced the gears in the tags.
Let me repeat it again: NO DSLRs! This is a simpe group for simple tools with a simple rule.
HAVE FUN!
