19 Jan 09 - Please do not confuse Silhouette with Outline. Just because you can see the shape of something doesn't mean it's a silhouette (by this group's definition) - Think of things with the light behind them, and you're in their shadow. Then, it's a silhouette.

About silhouette




Silhouettes, dark foreground figures looming with light behind them. The black outline for the purpose of seeing not the depth of the subject, but the edges crisp and clear. Silhouettes can be anything, not just people.

No fill flash here!

Rules: Photos posted must have some silhouetting, but need not be all silhouette. We do prefer a recognizable and clearly-defined edge, however. Please remember that while we tend to think of shadow of someone's profile as a silhouette, it is not - it is a shadow.

Guidelines: For courtesy to others, please post no more than 4 photos/day (only 6 appear on the generic group page). They can be in a row, but do try and allow people to post between your 4 photo/day suggestion. Thanks.
