_ THOMAS says:

hi

i am a new DP1 user, and my camera is currently on firmware v.1.04

i am trying to install the v2.0 firmware update but when i put the first file onto my memory card and into my camera, the 'firmware update' menu is not *selectable*!!!!

this leaves me with literally no chance to update!

i have tried formatting the cards, reloading the firmware file but no luck.

have even tried using a different memory card, stil no luck.

and yes, the file is in the 'root'... if that is how you would describe the file being placed directly into the main 'removable disk' folder (im on mac) and not into the DCIM folder. etc.

anyone with a little more experience with the dp1 care to help out a fellow enthusiast?!

please!!!!

this is killing me! so frustrating!

thanks!

Thomas, are you using a freshly charged, fully charged battery? The camera will not let the firmware update proceed if there is marginal 'juice' in the battery.
Give the battery a good charge, then try.

yeh it is showing as a good three bars! (though i have shot around 30-40frames with flash since last charge)

should i give it a charge anyway and see what happens?

Yes, start with a freshly, fully-charged battery.

Thomas, did this work? I'd appreciate hearing the outcome, plus your experience and comments would be useful for other new users.

Right - I had the same problem, and I found it was down to memory card. If you use a SDHC card, the camera wouldn't accept any updated firmware. Instead I used a regular 2gb SD card which worked.

How much of an advantage is the latest firmware update? Does it make any significant difference to using the DP1?

sorry for the slow reply.

to other dp1 users having trouble with firmware updates: as Sandy said, make sure your battery is charged to 100% before you begin the install otherwise the camera won't let you (this is to protect the camera from corrupting its firmware if the battery runs out half way through the update).

@ cabarian:

the firmware updates are well worth installing.... as well as correcting handling problems i would say that the new ISO 50 and zoom button custom allocation are vital updates for improved usability.

from sigma web:

[Ver. 2.00]

1. It is possible to allocate different functions to each of the Digital Zoom buttons.
2. When the image is magnified in the review display, the magnification ratio will appear.

[Ver. 1.04]

1. A customizing function has been added to the Digital Zoom button.
2. The ft (feet) indicator has been added to the scale bar in MF mode.

[Ver. 1.03]

1. ISO 50 has been added into the ISO setting.
2. Grid Display mode shows Display Icons.
3. Shorten the pre-flash time in the Red-eye reduction flash mode.

[Ver. 1.02]

1. Correct the phenomenon that the "currently selected file" will be deleted, if the camera is turned off when the camera display remained in Delete Menu.

[Ver. 1.01]

1. Corrects the phenomenon of intermittent camera freeze under certain conditions.
2. The accuracy of the indication of the number of images that can be recorded with RAW format has been improved.
3. The grid display mode for picture taking is added to the LCD monitor. (It cannot be used in MF mode and movie mode)

PS. thanks sandy!
