Glad to hear it! Looking forward to seeing more of your pictures!
I haven't been so lucky. Still waiting for Sigma to work out what has happened to it. In the meantime.. the price in the UK just keeps dropping...
I hope it's fixed and returned by the time my Lensmate hood and Voigtlander viewfinder arrive!!!

Sorry to hear you have that problem too Christian. I hope you get it back soon.
I'm not impressed with Sigma right now..
Sigma UK can't repair my camera. So they need to send it back to Japan. Estimated time for repair 6-8 weeks!!
They won't service it under the international warranty because a friend bought it in the US for me. So they want the warranty card. receipt and proof that UK VAT was paid! I can't show that VAT was paid so I'm being charged £100 for the repair! I've pointed out that the DP1 was released in April 08 so obviously all retail DP1s in existence must be within their warranty period but they aren't taking that on board.
They can't send me a replacement camera on loan either. This is particularly bad because i'm going to Paris, Zermatt and Sri Lanka over the next 5 weeks.
I'm now stuck (just like my camera's focus)...
I could pay for the repair this time and have the potential trauma of repeating this experience every time it breaks. Forking out 20-25% the cost of the camera and more importantly significant time not being able to take photographs.
Or i just cut my losses, turn my back on Sigma and go with another company's products.
I recognise that I am in a special situation because I didn't buy my camera in the country where i have sent it for repair, but I'm really disappointed in the international warranty hurdles. Sigma UK aren't taking any steps to help me out. I only used the camera for 3 days and have already been without it for several weeks.
Any advice? MY DP1 was bought from B&H in New York. Has anyone dealt with their repair centres before?

Hurray! Finally reunited with my DP1 after its long repair stint in Japan.
Can't wait to start using it again! Already added the Richard Franiec grip and lensmate hood.
Now weighing up whether to get the Voigtlander viewfinder....
Though obviously the main thing is to start taking pics again!

Hi
What actually is the fault with the DP1 and how do I check my one for it? Thanks

Not sure the original posters fault but mine stopped focusing in Auto or Manual, the focus was stuck at 0.3m and everything was blured.

Hi all,
That sounds just like the problem I had with my DP1. It'll be painfully obvious if you've got it. The AF mechanism got stuck at a short focal length (using a ruler only the 15cm and 16cm marking were in focus) and wouldn't change in AF mode or even when turning the MF wheel between 0.3cm and infinity. I couldn hear the AF mechanism making the funny whirring noises and the rectangle would change to green but the image doesn't snap into focus as usual.
Thankfully it was finally repaired and the problem hasn't resurfaced in the last year. When you get yours back I'd check for sensor dust though. Mine has a speck in the top right corner. It must have got there when they opened it up for repair. Easy to clone out but still annoying!
Hope you get your DP1 back soon aka-nolimit :)

Hi,
It sounds like exactly the same problem.
Could this be down to bad batch of parts?

Oh no! Sorry to hear that! Are you going to send it to Sigma for fixing?
Unfortunately my DP1 is now dead. The lens alignment went wrong when i was in Bolivia so I've sent it for repair (at a hefty cost) so in the meantime I bought a Samsung EX1 while I wait. It's a tiny sensor but if Sigma could put their sensor in the EX1 body with all those modern features and OLED screen it would be my ultimate camera!

Hello everyone, I've just arrived to this group looking for a solution for my DP1's broken AF/MF focus.
As I've could read in this forum, it seems that blocking focus trouble is not as unusual as I though. Two and a half years after using my DP1 without any problem, one fine day it gave me just the same problem than other users of this thread.
I'm from Spain. Here (I don't know how it works in other EU countries) the legal warranty period expires after the second year of the buying date. So guess I'm out of coverage. The repairing may cost about 200-300 eur. That means "just go buy another camera".
Couple of years ago I had another problem with a Canon Ixus II camera. I seeked then in disscussion forums and blogs, there were hundreds of users with that same trouble, and discovered it was due to a fabrication malfunction, and then after reclaim to the Canon Technical Service, they repaired my camera with no cost, even thouhg it's warranty was out of time.
I can't tell if the DP1 blocking focus trouble may be a trouble alike, and if I'd be so lucky with the costs of repairng as the last time. I love this camera, and would like to, at least, seek for a reasonable solution. So I'm trying to find the contact of the Japanese technical service, and try that way.
Can anyone give me this contact?
thanks for your attention, and (please) forgive my bad english.
