About Mount Shuksan, The Best of
One of the most beautiful and frequently photographed mountains around deserves it's own group. Please post your best images of this rugged peak. Thanks for looking. :-)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mount Shuksan is a glaciated peak in the North Cascades National Park of the United States. Shuksan lies in Whatcom County, Washington, immediately to the east of Mount Baker, just south of Canada.
Shuksan is composed of Shuksan Greenschist, oceanic basalt that was metamorphosed when the Easton terrane smashed into the west coast of North America, approximately 120 million years ago.
The mountain is often photographed from the Mount Baker Ski Area. Good views and photographs can be taken near the small lakes and Heather Meadows at the end of the Mount Baker Highway (Washington State Highway 542). The road is kept open during the winter to support the ski area, and in the late summer, the road to Artist Point allows visitors to travel a few miles higher.
Elevation: 9,127 feet (2,782 metres)
