About Shoot the Little Karoo
This is an invitation to anyone who would like to “Shoot the Little Karoo” with Jey and myself during the last weekend in April 2007.
Many of you who regularly view my photo-stream will have realized by now that I am passionate about the Little Karoo! When I first started my love affair with this region, I used to drive the 350km from Cape Town at every opportunity! I’m not exactly sure how I knew this, but from my very first visit to the area (about ten years ago), I was absolutely certain that the Little Karoo would play a big part of my destiny!
About two years after discovering this “magical” part of the Western Cape, I had the opportunity to purchase a few hundred unspoiled hectares of mountainside, approximately halfway between the towns of Ladismith and Calitzdorp. This was in the time before the property boom, and when the price of undeveloped Karoo veld could still be measured in sheep (one hectare = one sheep). Since purchasing my paradise, I’ve been visiting this “farm” at least once a month, at most every weekend… or whenever the stress of city living gets a bit too much!
When I joined Flickr (towards the end of last year), I was quite hesitant at first to bombard my photo-stream with images of my farm. It might be paradise to me, but I realized that I could never hope to capture and present the beauty and stillness that permeates your soul when you visit this region!
So here's the deal...
I would hereby like to invite you (and your partner) to join me on a photographic long-weekend from Friday the 27th of April till Sunday the 29th. We could all stay over in my cottage and/or campsite, and we can explore the koppies and surrounding mountains, photographing what we discover and enjoying the fresh clean Karoo air. All you need to bring is your tent and/or mattress and sleeping bag, some food and drinks… and your camera! And hey, if you’re not into the camping thing, then there are a number of local B&Bs and guesthouses for you to choose from.
Please feel free to join this group and to comment or question anything at all.
Hope to see you all there!!!!
