About "Shooting the Bronx" exhibit @ PeaceLove
This year we are revisiting the theme "Shooting the Bronx" with an exhibit at the PeaceLove Cafe in Melrose. Three of the original photographers are back: Mario Burger, Eileen McNamee and Clarisel Gonzalez. This group also showcases the photography of Steven Maginnis and Ismael Nunez.
We regularly highlight the people, places and events of the Bronx. Our photographers all have Bronx ties as residents, visitors or "tourists" of the borough. We are amateur and/or professional. We all document the Bronx. Some more than others, but you can find the Bronx represented in our work. We are members of The Bronx and Bronx Latino, two popular themed groups here on flickr. Ismael and Clarisel are also members
of the NYC chapter of the Puerto Rican Photographic Society. Most of us met on flickr and
have formed friendships and artist networks.
Eileen McNamee, a Bronx resident, says: "I like to photograph the little
parts of life in the Bronx and then use them to illustrate a bigger picture. I also like to photograph the things that aren't usually associated with the Bronx, which often
has such a bad reputation. I try to photograph the pretty, the smart,
the great things that the Bronx has to offer."
Steven Maginnis, of New Jersey, says, "I was drawn to the wonderful early-
twentieth-century architecture and the fascinating activity at the Viva Bronx! Festival."
"Shooting the Bronx" is part of the Bronx Council on the Arts' trolley tour on April 30 and May 4, 2011. The tour promotes Bronx tourism.
Our previous exhibit with this same theme was in 2009 at a Bronx Week event by the entrepreneurial NetWorks Organization (www.thenetworks.org). Clarisel of PRSUN Communications also curated that exhibit, which was held at the Pelham/Split Rock Golf Course.
This year's exhibit is multimedia. It is not just photography. It also incorporates paintings.
Also on exhibit at PeaceLove are paintings on the wall by Loretta D'Orsogna and Samantha Clementson and the Bronx-themed photography of Eileen Mcnamee.
