About The Shire

The Shire - View this group's most interesting photos on Flickriver

For images that conjure up Tolkiens 'The Shire', which to me is a golden age of England, but a period that is hard to actually define.

Buckland, Woody End, Michel Delving, Bywater all these places I am sure Tolkien drew the inspiration from our rural landscape. He even borrowed a few names!

Rolling green meadows, hedgerows, rivers, woodlands, plants, animals and only real Hobbit Holes if you manage to find any.

Landscapes only!

Please do not include images with people or houses in or anything modern. Nothing to detract from the imagination of who or what might live in such landscapes.

Livestock and wild animals are allowed.
