About Shine a Light (AI@50)

Shine a Light is the second global moment of the AI50 anniversary year campaign.

It aims to energize existing activists and stir up new support through highly visual, poignant public events where ‘light’ will be a key element. All Shine a Light events will take place on 9-10 December 2011 to highlight Human Rights Day.

Each event will shine a light on one (or more) of the 14 individuals, families and communities who are the focus of the Global Letter Writing Marathon 2011 and draw more attention to their stories in order to inspire others to act too.

In this way, Shine a Light aims to amplify and support the work of the Global Letter Writing Marathon, helping increase the number of actions that are taken this year, working on the principle that more action = more human rights impact.

At the same time as supporting our campaigning work, we hope to increase awareness of Amnesty International (who we are, what we do and how we do it) by making Amnesty International supporters around the world visible to more people on Human Rights Day through these globally united, public facing, visual events.
