Is Sheffield Britain's most cutting edge city?

It sure is nice to think that Flickr photos can escape the site and be seen in wider circles. It's super nice that I got quoted! :-)

While I'm chuffed for Mark and his pictures, I can't help feel this is the Beeb using our efforts for free when any other magazine or web site would have to pay.

It harks back to the One Show thread the other week, maybe it's just me but it seems to me the BBC is using it's fame & "not for profit" status to get a load of free work out of people.

Sorry to be so negative on your thread Mark :-( Well done in getting your photo's on the Beeb's site.

I see your point StubbsUK. Part of me would certainly have liked to earn some money - but there is still a part of me that remembers when nobody on the Internet was "doing it for the money" - and everything was free. Crazy idealists where are you all now?

Mr Mollusk says:

It is a bit of an issue for photographers...

on one hand it feels great to get images published, but on the other hand we need to feel valued and get paid for our time, after all everyone else at the BBC will get a wage, so why should we not???

Anyway, regardless of this, they chose those pics because they were great, so hats off to Lucasdigital!!!

stubblog.blogspot.com/2006/09/making-some-coin-vs-crazy-i...

kind of related to this, but it's more about the large corps who publish their API's etc for "free" and how that compares to what we do here as photographers.
