About Sanjay Gandhi National Park - Mumbai
Photographs taken in the city forest i.e. the 108 sq. km. of protected sanctuary within Mumbai's limits, extending into neighbouring Thane district of Maharashtra state, India.

The sanctuary is home to several species of flora and fauna, the most famous inhabitant being its leopards - Panthera Pardus - known to stray out of the park boundaries into nearby human habitations - much to its peril. Sightings are best in the dry season, especially end summer when much of the deciduous foliage has been shed.
Post monsoons, SGNP is a butterfly and wildflower lovers delight.
A few hours spent walking along the several forest trails is most rewarding. The Silondha, Yeoor and Malad trails are easily accessible. Forest Dept. permission is required for the Bhooth Bangla trail and to visit the Tulsi and Vihar lakes.
SGNP is also home to the Kanheri caves - an ancient Buddhist settlement dating back 2000 years.
