The flickr meet ups seem to be in the same neighborhood at:
Crossroads Cafe
699 Delancey St,
San Francisco
I haven't been to one but seems like a good place to meet. I'm looking forward to it. :)

valerie: yeh, I've been bad about going too, I always mean to but forget or something comes up. Not this time. :)
I can bring some supplies for making a camera, I've got enough brass shim to make 10,000 pinhole cameras; but construction might be tricky in a cafe.
Tinou: I've got a little details up on my site about my latest pinhole/camera mod: http://www.mkaz.com/photo/cameras/pinhole_35mm.html
Or for a little more inspiration -- you can check out this guy who made a wicked cool pinhole out of a match box: http://www.blog.co.uk/index.php/alspix/2005/12/31/matchbox_pinhole~428481
or this creative polaroid pinhole out of one of those fun izone cameras. Here's the camera and an example shot and explanation

This is super exciting since I work nights and usually miss the meetups. Noon would work just fine for me.

I've been real interested in the paper pinhole camera. It looks pretty cool and I love the idea of an entire camera made of paper.
I highly encourage you to pick it up before the meet-up. Yes, its for my purely selfish reason so I can check it out :)

haha! in that case i'll pick up a few in case anyone else is curious or in case i break it. i have a bad history with flimsy cams. i was going to use my holga, but a 35mm cam would be so much cheaper in the end. plus i have been wanting to try it out for ages! saw one at target of all places around christmas time.
pete--you better be there mister! can't wait to finally meet ya. ;-)

One thing to bear in mind, the larger the film plane the better with pinhole photography. Most of the digi-pinholes I've seen have been on reduced frame sensors and seem very soft (also, they show every spec of dust on your sensor much more clearly than the subject itself). Full frame 35mm is better, medium format is a big step up - the best pinhole pictures I've seen are from large paper negatives in improvise cardboard box cameras, however, having to reload after every shot is not very convenient. I've got an old TLR I'm going to convert but you can pick up old box cameras for pennies that would also make good candidates for conversion.
See you all there - Martin

this sounds really fun. Nice job getting it all going. I have to figure out a pinhole before the 30th. ... I have an old Brownie (which of course is medium format!) that I might be able to modify.
Anyway, cool stuff!

I'm scheduled to be approximately 110 feet below the Monterey Bay at noon Sunday... too doggoned dark for pinholes! At least with exposure times that are shorter than the air supply :)
(And I don't have time to build one of these... yet)

wowsa! thanks for all of the interest everyone! looks like we should have a good size group.
yes, in-jeannius you can bring other cameras, i know i will be since i have never shot in that area before. however, if you don't shoot pinhole too, we have the right to tease you endlessly! the day is really all about pinholes, but we might let you slide, plus i'm sure there will be some extra pinholes around if anyone doesn't have time. i should have a few extra paper pinhole cams and pinhole has generously offered those killer pinholgas!
kevin--i'm shocked. really. i figured you'd have a whole arsenal of underwater cams! sigh. ;-)
24 days until the pinhole revolution begins...

Pinhole underwater DOES make sense in a way... just throw the camera overboard, leave it down there all day, haul it up like a lobster trap & see what you've got. Heavy sucker though.

thanks pinhole. much appreciated. i think we will be at crossroads for a bit longer than 15 minutes though. i do want to give everyone time to get any help they need first. also, as i will be taking public transit myself, i realize it might be hard for everyone to show up right at noon. i will be there early though to save our spot. see you all in two weeks!

Not to be a wet blanket, but the Giants have a game that afternoon: 1:05 start time. Parking may be a bit on the iffy side, so those of us who'll drive should plan accordingly.

I'll try to make it tomorrow with my oh-so-crappy home made pinhole adapter. (I just posted some pics i took with it.)
Maybe afterwards we can take the N train to ocean beach and walk up to the Cliff House and check out the camera obscura. I think its open again. I've never been there but it seems like a good place to go on worldwide pinhole day.
