Please join this group, and submit advertisements that have (1) blatant sexual imagery, or (2) use sexually suggestive techniques to sell a product or service. The ad must be for a non-sexual product and displayed in a mainstream location (e.g., billboard, bus stop, store display, mass mailing, mainstream magazine, etc.).
The idea here is that our media environment bombards us with sexually suggestive imagery. The goal is to document the extent to which this occurs. Hopefully this image repository will serve as a resource for researchers investigating the effects of these ads.
Do not submit (or we will remove) ads for sexual products (e.g., sex toys, condoms, escort services), or ads located in adult locations (e.g., Playboy magazine, inside of bars, casinos, or clubs), because sex speech maybe expected in these places. Instead, focus on the intrusion of sexual imagery into public places for common products. Obscenity or pornography will be removed, but anything distributed in a prominent public ad is presumed not to be obscene or pornographic.
One last thing -- only advertisements. Private commentary, such as bumper stickers and window signs, should be cataloged elsewhere. This group only documents the effects of advertising.
Please join this group -- we need "photojournalists" willing to cover their city, town, or media.
