18 Jul 08 - Hi, the initial set of photos is great. If you have a bunch of photos on the topic and I only invited 1 or 2, figure the rest are also welcome.

I love the re-enactor photos -- I never realized how active the re-enactment of this era was -- impressive "portrayals" and impressive photos.

While you're posting here, take a moment to look at and comment on the other photos. There's no "post one, comment on one" rule here, but there are some fabulous photos that deserve favorable feedback.

About Seven Years War/French and Indian War

Known as the Seven Years War in Europe and the French and Indian War here, it was started by George Washington and grew into the first true World War. Although the first few years were disastrous for the British side, the final outcome was a complete victory and complete control of North America for Britain.

Ironically, it also spurred the colonies' move toward independence. Many Americans who served with the British were disenchanted by their second-class treatment by British officers. And British actions after the war to avoid further confrontations between whites and natives (notably, the Proclamation of 1763, which prohibited white settlement west of the Blue Ridge) and increased taxes to recoup the war's cost spurred resentment on the part of the colonists and started them on the path toward rebellion. Within only 12 years after the end of the French and Indian War, the once-loyal British colonies were in armed rebellion and a year after that they had declared their independence from King George.

This pool is for any photos relevant to the war: forts (Ticonderoga, Necessity, William Henry, Ligonier, etc.), paintings, and statues of the key participants, battlefields (US and Canada and elsewhere), roads the armies marched on, historical markers, re-enactments, etc. Photos related to Pontiac's War are also welcome.
