2012 SPC Project 1: A Portrait in Three Parts

Boys and girls,

We haven't run a project together in a little while (unless you count the 52 Weeks project that is still ongoing) so I thought I'd start off 2012 with something fun and exciting.

Recently I was asked to provide a new self portrait for one of the magazines I work for. Inspired by the work of Adde Adesokan here on flickr, I created a triptych for the first time. If you know me, this image says quite a bit about who I am - and therein lay your first assignment for 2012.

I want to see the good folks here at the SPC put together their own triptych portraits. I want it to say something about who you are, what you do and what you love. This should help us get to know each other (we've had so many new members join this year!) and be a fun activity in the process.

This is just for fun and totally voluntary, and there's no time limit. Just show us who you are.

I've been working on a family portrait project for the better part of a year now, and I plan on incorporating these triptychs into that project and supplementing the original images of each person with one of these. I really do think they say a lot about personality and character.

Good luck, and have fun.

Are there any sizing guidelines?? I mean, is there an ideal or prescribed proportion for the panels?? Or the space between them??

Nudes are encouraged, of course.

The easiest way to size these is to crop each image to 16X9 then combine in photoshop, leaving the vertical margins untouched. Then overlay a white bar @ 10 pixels (give or take) to split the difference between the first and second and second and third photos. I messed around with it for a little while, and this seemed like the easiest way to do it! Paint would work, too. And probably a little easier. aha

Finally finished my triptych. I had been meaning to do this for a while, but have been really busy lately. Hopefully we can get more people doing this, it's a great idea.

I'm even using the idea on my blog to spotlight various photographers. Many of the photographers here in the SPC I'd love to spotlight, so feel free to let me know if you're interested. All you will need is a triptych self-potrait and it will be some great publicity. I got "freshly pressed" the other day with one of my photos and it ended up getting 5,000 views in one day. So my follower base is worth reaching out to. This is my favorite group on Flickr, would love to spread the word about some of you guys.

Anyways, here's mine

Seems like the unwritten rule is to have an old film camera too. Imma be all over this sometime this week. Unless I forget again.

You don't have to have a bloody camera in the shot... haha. that wasn't the point. If you have something else, something more fitting, I'd rather see that! Be creative.

Hey Guys,

Heres my Triptych attempt. When I seen this project I taught it was fascinating then I seen the work by Adde Adesokan and it's mind blowing. I knew the type of image I wanted but struggled to put it together until my friend whos much better at photoshop helped me.

Thanks for looking

Here. I did it.

Actually, I did it a long time ago. It takes me a while to catch up with these things.

No beer here, just an old film camera. RESHOOT.
