About Sectio aurea / The Golden Section Group

This group is ONLY for images that have the subject or a major component of the image (i.e. landmark, horizon, sun, person, single tree or any other eyecatching spot) in the so called golden section (aka golden ratio, divine ratio, sectio aurea (lat.)). The measurements of the photo itself (aspect ratio) do not necessarly have to be in that ratio but you're welcome if they are.


The golden ratio expresses the relationship that the sum of two quantities is to the larger quantity as the larger is to the smaller.
At least since the Renaissance, many artists and architects have proportioned their works to approximate the golden ratio—especially in the form of the golden rectangle, in which the ratio of the longer side to the shorter is the golden ratio—believing this proportion to be aesthetically pleasing. Mathematicians have studied the golden ratio because of its unique and interesting properties (source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio).


What does belong here and what not:


If you don't have a clue whether your photos contain hotspots in the golden section you may want to download a cool uitility called Atrise Golden Section from www.atrise.com/golden-section/ which adds a useful and resizeable golden section grid overlay to your desktop. The creator of this group however is in no way affiliated with atrise.com. It's just a nice gadget and the only one available as it seems.

Pictures which do not have any eye-catchers/hot spots in golden ratios will be removed. For pictures which have only a golden aspect ratio (medium size = 500 x 309px ) please head over to our friends at the Golden Rectangle Group!
