About Seattle Art Scene
A peek at what is happening in Seattle's art scene! Photos should be of artists and art walk / art gallery goers, and of performance art and people interacting with art. Photos from Seattle's First Thursday Art Walks encouraged (this goes for relevant photos of any Seattle neighborhood art walks). Contemporary, performance and alternative art welcome - but not if you're posting flyer/event promotion. Ideally photographs will be editorial in nature!!
There's a daily posting limit of 3 - please stay on topic (art focused). If you know anything about the artist/art work, please share it. Thanks Everyone!!
Please post:
* Art walk photos
* Photos of artists, preferably with a bio, link to their site and/or where they are showing.
* Photos of gallery openings (the EVENT itself, not flyers or individual artwork)
* People interacting with art - viewing it, participating in it, photographing it
* Other art scene people - curators, writers, gallery owners, patrons, etc - who's involved, who's contributing?
And now for the small print to explain in advance why your photo would be removed and other disclaimers:
1. No self promotion (website screenshots, art opening flyers, etc) or photos of individual artworks. Feel free to notify members that you have a show coming up IN THE DISCUSSION AREA and please post your work in the Seattle Artists group.
2. No art in private spaces. If people who visit the group see art in your photo but can't go visit it, it's not public, don't post it. (Exception: PUBLIC performance art that has concluded).
3. No photography "art" (unless it's photo of your photography in a gallery or on public display) . Try this new group exposure.seattle,
5. Photos of your friends, if the photos art-context is mostly coincidental. Your friends actively viewing art or performing art are A-OK.
6. Graffiti, posters, bands - many are artistic, and many graphic designers are great artists, but there are too many and it could quickly dilute the purpose of this group, here's a group for that Seattle Street Art.
7. For the purposes of this group, art is generally a single or limited edition work that is not promoting an event or trying to generate revenue for a product (band posters, album art, etc), but rather exists PRIMARILY to expression of an idea, concept and/or aesthetic.
8. Body art. A lot of people in Seattle have it and/or make it - including this group's admin - but we don't think our tattoos really contribute much to the Seattle ART SCENE.
9. If you think these rules suck, sorry, I just want an art group and I started it so nanny-nanny-boo-boo, go start your own group.
10. That said, if your photo was removed and you're unclear about why or would like to appeal send a message to 'mahalie'.
Please don't make me keep adding stuff to this list....!
