About The Somerset & Dorset after closure

Images of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway after closure to passenger traffic in 1966.

The S&D ran between Bath Green Park and Broadstone Junction (and then onto Poole and Bournemouth West) along with branches to Burnham-on-Sea, Bridgwater and Wells. Passenger trains also ran to Wimborne until 1920. This once important cross-country railway was closed to passengers on 6 March 1966 although some sections remained open for goods traffic for a few more years.

Now it is mostly all gone but some sections of the line, notably at Shillingstone and Midsomer Norton, are being restored to their former glory whilst many other parts have been opened for walkers and cyclists.
