[CLOSED for critique] - Waimea Wave by Justin Sloan
|
Well, the title for this week's picture says enough: "Waimea Wave".

We also have a large version to work with: farm3.static.flickr.com/2527/3834242031_b43c384ab4_b.jpg
If you are new here: Welcome! ...and if you don't have a clue what this thread is all about please check out an earlier post. It should be self-explanatory when browsing through our thread history.
If you are still confused, just Flickr-Mail me and I'm happy to explain.

A cool picture.
I made a few tweaks. In Photoshop I used Content Aware Scaling to make the wave more massive and shorten the foreground without cropping - Result the wave looms higher over our swimmer's head.
I also made minor increases to vibrance, clarity and saturation and boosted the highlights with curves.

Hi
My first run at this! So I have done a few tweaks too. Curves to boost highlight, sharpen the picture slightly, desaturate and crop it to focus on the swimmer against the wave.
Thanks!

hi all.
1. vertical framing and crop makes picture more dramatic.
2. some curves and hue adjastments.
3. framing

A more traditional placement and some minor color shifts to increase contrast in the water

I use content aware scaling along with a crop to get the composition I wanted.
The I used the Mild Contrast Pop filter in Topaz Adjust 3
And lastly I sharpened it a little in Sharpener Pro.

Wanted to emphasize the wideness as well as the height of the waves so I put two black stripes on the top and bottom of the photo; Dodge & Burn parts of the wave to give if a bit more depth. Played with the Curves to give it more contrast and "punch". I left the colour as is.

I love the scale of human vs. nature. I would love to see a longer focal length to compress the depth of field and bring the figure into closer apparent proximity to the wave. I'd frame the person a little more off center, but not on the images 1/3. Maybe punch up the contrast and vibrancy a bit too. Thanks for showing your image!
