#3 are cicada skins- locusts in other parts of the world. They are the coolest bugs- hibernate for 13 years, then crawl out of the ground in swarms, mate, eat and die quickly.

Sorry about the hideousness in photo 3 - maybe i should have posted the thumbnail size instead... As already pointed out (getthebubbles, above), these are the empty skins shed by two cicadas left behind by their owners on a leaf. They are as noisy as they are ugly.

H.o. I'm sure you had good intentions but hopefully you can avoid alienating people in this group. I'm also sure we are aware of technical problems with our images but I think the main goal of this type of thread is how the images convey the theme, Tandem.

Thoughts from others?

I agree completely with you thermophle. It made me not want to submit another shot. I see great pictures in this pool, which inspire me and humble me and I know are better than mine, but its not for critique unless I ask. My 2 cents!

Forgot this is not a site where people critique on each other's work. Comments withdrawn. Asking for forgiveness. Sorry for being naive.

.Ashkan is a group administrator .Ashkan says:

I liked the critique that he made on my picture and it was a correct one IMHO.... BUT as getthebubbles said, members don't put their pictures here for getting critiques... these threads started by Liz just for gettign inspiration from other peoples work in a certain subject...

other thing is many of our new members don't know how the system works, so we need to give them some time to adjust themselves to the environment :))

The fastest way for me to improve my photography is dead honest critique. If I post something, please be rough as if you are the reviewer of my manuscript for publication.

.Ashkan is a group administrator .Ashkan says:

you can start it yourself... for exampel start a thread... put a picture and ask members to give comments on your shot... how is that??

The topic could be:

"What do you think about this? #1"

And the second person will post her/his photo with the same purpose in a different thread and give the numebr 2...

any thoughts??

I think this is an interesting idea Ashkan. Homo olympus's critique of my picture was correct and I agreed with what he said about my picture. I know my pictures are far from perfect, and I am always eager to learn how to improve as a photographer. I think many people post pictures they are at least somewhat proud of here on flickr and if we do start a thread where we critique a photo, I just hope that everyone offers CONSTRUCTIVE and helpful input but be sensitive as well.
