Clarification please.
14x14 landing grid, as in 14 studs x 14 studs?
because that's seems purdy small, not put off at all, just making sure I got it right? - as those two pictured above are bigger than that, yes?

Yes, 14studs. Landing gear included (the 14x14 is in landed position, as if that is all the room it would have on a carrier). Steelharbingerofdeath: I don't know what that would translate to, sorry. I had some difficulty with LEGO Shop @ Home last time in shippin the $50 GC to Canada...that is why I am doing sets. Can someone else help with the translation?

Custom elements are accepted...however I would prefer that you don't "modify" LEGO elements (such as paint, cut, chew, or whatever) you won't be disqualified for it but it will hurt your chances.
It can be atmospheric, but it is a Starfighter contest so if you build an atmospheric fighter it needs to be able to travel in space as well.
Hope that helps.

14x14 is VERY small, I tested my small fighter out against a measured out square, and it's like 21 studs wide and almost 18 studs long, and it's pretty dang small compared to some other fighters. Though probably therein lies the challenge.

Does the landing bay have to be oriented with the 14 x 14 as the floor, or can we have a landing bay that is 14 studs tall by 14 deep and 5 bricks wide?

Also, can it fit into the specifications in any direction? Like diagonally in the 14x14 landing pad?

If it has folding wings, antennae, weapons, etc. then can it qualify as long as those things fit in the 14x14 space when retracted? In other words, is the 14x14 space representing a landing pad or a storage bay?

If you make me an admin or a mod (even temporarily) I could probably fix it.

Does flight orientation matter? The engine configuration I've got lets it take off from a position that fits within the size limits, but it looks more interesting in semi-vertical flight.

Dr. X - not to be picky, but you're too wide. Remember, a brick is taller than it is wide - the ratio of brick dimensions is 5 x 5 x 6. So those wings of yours which are 5 bricks wide are equal to 6 studs wide. Your fighter is actually 16 studs wide (not counting the studs on the wing tips).

@UltraQ: Curses! I know that ratio myself, and I should have done it properly. I was lazy and used a plate, and it came out at 14.
Anyway, am I still in, Brickeye? 16 is pretty close to 14...

To answer this for everyone, anything, even a hair over 14x14x5 will not be considered eligible!
