About Schneider Kreuznach

Jos. Schneider Optische Werke G.m.b.H. is a German lens maker founded in 1913 in the town of Bad Kreuznach, Rhineland-Pfalz. For many years the company was a supplier of lenses to makers of fine photographic equipment, among them:
- Franke & Heidecke, manufacturer of the world famous Rolleiflex series of medium format and small format cameras
- Linhof, famous German maker of medium format and large format cameras
- Exakta, German manufacturer of 35mm and medium format cameras
- AGFA, a German photographic company which made various films, papers and cameras
- Adox, a German firm which made films and cameras
- Balda, a German camera maker based in Dresden (later in Bünde, West Germany)
- Alpa, a Swiss luxury camera maker
- Graflex, an American maker of medium format, large format and press cameras
- Eastman Kodak, which used Schneider lenses on the Retina series of cameras and still use them as OEM lenses on many of their current digital cameras
They are also the parent company of B+W Filterfabrik, maker of B+W filters.
For large format users, many Schneider lenses are available mounted in several popular types of shutters, such as Copal, Compur, Prontor, etc.
Schneider optics are also used to make the Componon and Componar line of lenses for use with photographic enlargers.
