07 Jun 07 - The Saxifragaceae have an interesting distribution, being widely distributed in north temperate areas and the arctic, but in the southern hemisphere being largely confined to a band running down the west temperate tropical mountain range of South America. The family comprises some 540 species in 33 genera.
